Hurricane Harbor

A writer and a tropical muse. A funky Lubavitcher who enjoys watching the weather, hurricanes, listening to music while enjoying life with a sense of humor and trying to make sense of it all!

Nothing Happening, nothing out there

Very hostile to hurricanes these days and other tropical systems that don't go bump in the night.

Nothing to talk about.

Hurricanecity is doing hurricane prep

Flhurricane is talking global warming

I havent checked other boards.. no reason to.. nothing..

God I miss football. At least during a good football game I can zone out for three stupid hours and not think on anythng else. Love it. Get lost in it. Like the water vapor loop but the water vapor loop is very uninspiring today, tonight and tomorrow

So...maybe I'll think of something I can say tomorrow except that the crummy dust is out there vacumming the moisture and aint getting any good waves.

Notes, Thoughts and Announcements

First off... I am going to upload pictures when I can figure out how. Maybe today.. maybe. Why not? It's a possibility.

I like this.. no one seems to be able to find me here lol.. really is pretty safe. One place no one is looking and I'm typing out my soul for all to read but really for me.

Not LoisCane, not BobbiStorm, Lady whoever...just me.

Anyway...so... where was I?

I will upload a picture.

Nothing is happening and I mean NOTHING.. and don't think anything will until that big front comes sweeping down clearing out all the blocked energy and whoosh washes away the old.. high setting up again, want to say June 26 or 27 but think Venus goes forward just after that. yes...astrology and weather work hand in hand and if you don't believe me... ask Ben Franklin.

So.. after Venus goes forward ..no thats to late. Maybe its Mars getting out of Cancer into Leo or Mercury going into Cancer.
Mercury connecting with Saturn, that should conjure up one heck of a hurricane..wouldn't you think?

Next...not doing the number thing, unlike Ed I will never figure out Algebra or Geometry, but I can add.

I'm looking to get married or fall madly, deeply, passionately in love. So anyone with the following traits can apply ...here or at hurricanecity.com where I live normally.

A sense of humor. No I did not say a comedy writer, a sense of humor.

They must like or enjoy weather. It doesnt have to be tropical but it does help.

They must be smart.. really smart and not fixed in their smartness in that they are open to new things, thoughts..discoveries. And, they must be multi-taskable in their smartness. They need to be able to switch gears from one subject to another without getting lost. Smart on politics, smart on religion, smart of earth sciences, and they need to know that Tennessee Williams was not a country singer, was not the father of Hank Williams, for instance.

They must either like country music or not hate it.. never make fun of it.

They must keep Shabbos. The Jewish Sabbath. No .. I don't want a 7th Day Adventist, respect them tremendously but they must be a jew keeping the jewish sabbath or at least a very strange goy who likes jews and likes to be around them and enjoys Sabbath meals and won't mind being refered to by my friends as "that wierd goyish guy she's hanging with" not detached mind you, I need intense and passionate but open minded enough that they can laugh and say "Lchaim, I love you too!"

Oh and I dont eat meat or shellfish out in restaurants. I'm kosher. On occaision I do eat out salads, pareve things.. but don't try and convince me how good your pepper steak is.. that's nice but I don't want any. Just my thing. Pretend I'm a vegetarian.

Oh and you can't hate Lubavitch. Contrary to what the Washington Post said about me... or implied.. (was true that I said it but it was sort of taken out of context thank you Marc/k Fischer/Fisher on two accounts for mixing in my life. I am Lubavitch still in many ways. Ask the Rebbe..he will forward you my letters. I do HaYomYom everyday and plenty else and still believe in all the goals of Chabad, it is a great movement.. in concept more than every day practice but then so is much of what we do. In theory we are wonderful..in practice, boy do we mess up but we mean well.

So...for those who read the Washington Post and all of its many papers that it was in all over the country. I am still with Lubavitch and I do not have, never had and never will have a relationship with Dave Schwartz. So THERE!

What I said was..that in lubavitch you are friends with people you don't or wouldn't otherwise have much in common with.. what I meant was if you arent in lubavitch you make friends according to hobbies, you meet someone at your kids school and they bowl and invite you to join their bowling team or find out they are into hurricanes and stay up til 2am for a new advisory too and you become friends. Based on interests.. not just love of the Rebbe. One is not necessarily better than the other but it does give you something to talk about beyond love of the rebbe and goals of Chassidus. Nice and fun to have hobbies in common. Like DUH.

The problem in my marriage wasn't that we didn't have things in common, or we didn't love the Rebbe..it was other things I will not go into because ever since the Hard Copy the kids are a little publicity shy. They don't like me to talk about personal things that involve them and so I won't.. but it was about things I said in the Post..when someone makes fun of you for something simple like watching a dolphin game or the weather channel or espn or cnn there is something wrong. Something had changed in our marriage. Was a sign that things were not good and I was not being respected as an individual...who likes football and the weather more than old reruns of Hawaii 5-0. If it was a footbal game, maybe I would have cared. Field Goal and they caught the qb.. it is possible.

Anyway.. I love football. So that's important.

I enjoy astrology, find the patterns fascinating. So did Carl Jung so don't make fun of me.

Don't make fun of me is important...comedy writers need not apply though honestly, have noticed (thank God) they usually make fun of Ed not Bobbi..so on that..thank you ..well no, personally I wish they wouldn't make fun of Ed. He was, probably is a nice guy and you don't understand him like I do, did..and do not know what it is you have against him. I'm sure Joe does but I don't and pick on someone your own size. !!

Where was I?

Okay...they must be Chabad friendly, love the weather, love to watch the sunset, love to have quiet time and love to be hilariously silly and talkative or be able to engage in deep political analysis and not make fun of me while watching the Dolphins play football (or GreenBay or a few other teams depending on who is coaching, i love a good coach..come back Jimmy Johnson) and for some strange reason I have taken to (wincing, got funny freaky feeling in my stomach here..) taken to following (wincing) the Boston Red Sox... go pEDro lol no seroiusly this is not about him, go Pedro and there is another guy I like but maybe Manny? Anyway... sports is a plus.

Someone who doesnt slam doors or throw things or walk out around the block and beyond is preferable. Someone who knows how to talk and communicate without using 954 screen names to do so. Sorry, my mind gets tired. Alzheimers runs in my family, I don't have much brain cell energy left..need to conserve.

And........

Someone who wants to live in Key West in the future or at least visit a lot.

Someone who likes kids. I have ten but only four really live with me and they are growing up rapidly. Note the youngest likes Nascar so being obsessive about cars will help there. The boy turning 14 likes fishing.

Basically I need a Jewish Redneck who likes to enjoy a can of beer at the end of a day doing hard work and watching the sunset with me on the front porch. Who at the end of a long week will look foward to having a really nice Friday Night Shabbos table. And, who doesnt mind that I go nuts about four or five months out of the year with hurricanes and football and I will accept their hobbies which are time consuming and love the fact that something in life makes them happy and smile beyond spending the rest of their life with me.

No comedy writers need apply.

No tropical development through Monday .. possibly the rest of the week.

Yes, that is me. I can do Tanya, Tarot and the Tropics all at the same time.

Just another day... waiting and watching

Nothing new to say here tropically. The wave fought the trough and lost, of course... danger zone is hard to get past, only the bravest survive

There is a swirl out in the Atlantic...dark high pressure area barreling towards Miami... South Florida, reminds me of how Andrew looked. I think it will look like that later in the season but there will be a hurricane there.

Will it hit? Where will it hit?
Not sure, but if the high stays in place..it will.

Hope not the Keys....I do so love them, not want to them hit bad.
Don't want to see anyone hit bad.
But...someone will this year. I'm sure.

Not a year for the beginner...for the weak of heart.

Someone's gonna be lost in tracking..charting...thinking...studying.

All my friends will be busy bees..buzzing with enough activity for all their complicated brillant minds.

And, I'll be posting.. at Hurricane City because Jim decided to keep the board up. And, Yes.. I do feel good about that. He deserves it. He is what we all were way back when.. a small child but all grown up following a hobby, a passion and doing it on his scale.. what he can do, what he wants to do... Lots of trackers...few dedicated to the pursuit of understanding them like him. It's not just about having the fanciest, glizziest site or coolest trackers its about dedication to hurricanes and sharing with people who have the same passion.

Heard it said once ..on the bottom of some email or post from Chris that is attributed to Dr. Gray...There are only two types of people, those who study tropical weather and those who don't. Something like that, never met Gray personally so... will believe his student. And, he's right..just something that gets inside you.

Got to run to the library, off to work...where I can watch the world loop by.. how lucky can I get?

Bobbi ;)

Why You Gotta Watch the Water Vapor Loop

http://weather.unisys.com/satellite/sat_wv_east_loop-12.html

Something wild going on out there since yesterday.. almost violent looking at times... an evolutionary process that forces you to sit and stare and watch a bit...for those who know the water vapor loop it almost compells you to stop and pay attention, because something is happening.

It started yesterday..early in the day, when everyone was taking bets on development in the gulf.. somewhere out in the far Atlantic this process began to take shape. The color contrast between the dark black dry areas and the wet white moisture ladden air began to paint art work across the screen.. for a few frames it looked like Picasso had taken to dropping his magic brush down from his Artistic Heaven and he began painting images upon our computer screens, images which swirled and folded and swooped ...it was like watching the birth of a new world.

And as all that energy transfered itself somehow, magically ..oozing its way about the globe the Gulf glob suddenly began to lose shape..and it slip slided away..poof as some say in a few hours, gone... some said gone inland, some argued where the vortex went like it was some shell game weather people were playing with our minds, but that is what tropical weather is all about transference of energy ...and that is seen best on the Water Vapor Loop. You don't get caught in the blow ups you see on the IR sats but instead you can see it all..one big process... the wider out you go, the bigger the picture you see.

Like Cantore talking about storms coming in off of the Pacific near Alaska, waiting breathlessly to get a taste of them in Atlanta and Bastardi talking about jet streams in Japan... you see some of us are always watching the Water Vapor Loop. Because it shows us the patterns, the process evolving...and sometimes it gives us the most beautiful imagery anywhere short of staring at the Mona Lisa.

So, there it was yesterday morning... this tremendous transference of energy, lined up from north to south ...four features evolving out in the Atlantic, others simply disapeering.. a big upper low swirling around suddenly in the North Atlantic that looked like the man in the moon was trapped inside .. blobs of deep convection being shot off down to the SE to simply get sucked up again to the north and a hole opening up just north of the Hurricane Center's favorite wave of the day down to the south.

air being evacuated, sucked in, sucked up and rearranged

when you see this much action going on ... suddenly
it forbodes things about to happen not too far off down the line

it's almost erotic, its constantly flowing, evolving, exploding, ebbing a bit, rearranging...

Something is going on out there today... and tomorrow...there is a Transition going on in the tropics.

You can feel it. You can see it.

Something's going on.

And, when all that energy is done rearranging itself... we will begin to see something happen and when it happens... it will take some by surprise...but not others...not those watching the water vapor loop.

Give it a try, sit a spell, its better than a lava lamp, better than a kailediscope...its a magic crystal ball for translating the transference of tropical energy.

And, that's why you just gotta watch the water vapor loop :)

Why I Made This Harbor and other thoughts to think upon..

People who study hurricanes go a little crazy during the off season waiting for the hurricane season to start. Then, they go a little crazy during the early days of the season waiting for the REAL Hurricane Season to start. The weather gets hot and then it gets hotter. It gets muggy and humid and hurricane people in South Florida begin to talk statistically about how dry May is as they watch the sky waiting for thunderclouds to build out over the Everglades. During years like this.. May becomes June and they are still waiting, still still watching the sky to see if those signs of the rainy season will climb high and higher and form into large thunderstorms that rain down upon the land and announce the Rainy Season has begun.

Hurricane specialists go on the TV and talk about how dry May has been and how that has extended into June. And, they talk of signs and statistics and explanations about how the big ones always come when the rainy season is late. And, locals know that old timers always said a dry may brought a hurricane later in the season. But we know that every season is different and it only takes one.

And....all of us who love hurricanes for all the various reasons, who track and study and watch and stare, whether we get paid to watch the weather or not... get a little crazy.

Okay, we get A LOT crazy. How can we not? We have a hobby that has less peak days than some sports have playoff days. During some years the whole season can be summed up in two or three storms and in other years there are two or three hurricanes spinning throughout the basin.

We stay up until 2am just to hear the new cords.. to watch one more image come in... speak to one more friend online.

And, while waiting to go nuts like that... everyone begins to bite and snap and eachother over the smallest complaint on message boards all over the net. More arguing can be heard over whether a messy mass of moisture in the Gulf will or won't turn into the storms first hurricane.

People make bets.. even non-betters place their bets. Like people discussing an earthquake in LA the moment after the ground has shook a little.. made little circles in their coffee and trembled the ground under their feet... "I think that was a 3.0 in Santa Monica" "Nah, had to be 4.2 out in Palm Springs." "No way, was a 3.8 out by the Channel Islands" We are slightly related those of us who study hurricanes and earthquakes, distant cousins with the same blood running in our veins. We love the earth, we love to watch it boil into wild storms and we love watch it quiver and re-arrange itself, growing pains. We love to stare at it on a sat link.. water vapor.. visible, zoom in close or from a beautiful wild wide shot from high up above. We all have our favorites. Mine is the water vapor.. everyone who knows me knows that..and there are a lot of people who know me.

So.. while eveyone argues, bites their nails, goes blurry staring at tropical waves off Africa that won't quite form.. while everyone argues their way across the boards or fights with clerks at their local Publix about WHY they don't have their hurricane charts in and people have fever waiting for the season to really start..

I made myself and anyone who wants a Harbor.. a safe refuge to enjoy myself a bit... to laugh again, to smile.. to think .. to write.. to post a bit my thoughts on hurricanes and the 2004 Hurricane Season.

According to the dictionay... a harbor is a safe refuge. We all need safe refuges in life.. this is mine.. welcome to it.

Harbor: a place of security and comfort : REFUGE
Enjoy, feel safe.. and smile.. rest your bleary eyes. Shhh... the season hasn't really started yet.
